On with the review…

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the Most Fantastic Show on Earth…

Three years ago, the Ban changed everything, outlawing certain forms of magic and bringing about the rise of powerful crime syndicates. Now, speakeasies in every city sell illegal charms and jinxes, and bootleggers traffic restricted potion ingredients across the country. But even in this changing world, the magic of the circus still acts as a wondrous escape and provides entertainment for all.

Jake Strickland owns one such circus, inherited after an accident ended his career as a rodeo dragon rider. He also inherited the circus’ financial troubles, but since the show became his, he’s slowly managed to turn it into a profitable business once more. Or at least, that’s what he thought.

When a dangerous mobster comes to collect an old debt, Jake resorts to desperate measures to get the money before a strict deadline. With lives and livelihoods at stake, he battles the clock, his responsibilities to the circus, and a longstanding personal grudge that has festered for years. Can he pay back the mob before it’s too late?

summary is from goodreads

ESCAPE score: 51

I loved diving into the world that T.A.Hernandez created with a magical circus and a multitude of interesting characters and creatures of all shapes and sizes. It was such a wonderful read an I enjoyed it form start to finish.

The characters were, as I’ve said, a variety of personalities and made for such interesting reading. I particularly loved Jake as a main character and really emphasised with him throughout the entire plot of the book, I really connected with him as the story progressed and the conflicts arose. I also found Grace to be such a detailed character as well as being the main love interest, she was so well written as were all of the characters in this book. Plus, the magical creatures were so wonderful and I adored how much they were so central to the story as well. T.A.Hernandez really knows how to write characters and it shows in all of them, even the background characters seemed so full of life.

The plot too was very well written and I could really feel the tension building throughout the book and see it hanging over the heads of the characters and the circus. It was well paced and I really enjoyed the ending too. It was sweet and open ended and we all know how much I love a good ending that allows space for a sequel, and I would read that sequel in a heartbeat because this book was so incredible and I loved every second of it.

And of course, as you have probably guessed the writing was wonderful and I am so glad that I was given the chance to read it. T.A.Hernandez really has a gift as she has created such a magical and complex world that just sings with life and wonder. I am honestly in awe of her skill and wish I could do something like that with the books I’m wiring lol.

Anyways, you guys really should go and read this book because it is just incredible and a really fun read!
