So, I’m coming at you with another review this time for the lovely ‘The Girl With The Whispering Shadow’ by D.E.Night. I have read and reviewed the first book here so feel free to check that out as well!
There will also be links too purchase the books below.
Even a secret town cannot protect Ivy from a mysterious darkness…
Only hours after Ivy Lovely discovers that she is the fulfilment of the Moonsday promise, she is whisked away from her beloved school to Belzebuthe, a secret town for only those with magical blood.
Ivy sets out on a mission to uncover the second facet of the Kindred Stone while eluding the Dark Queen’s wrath. But even when she’s supposed to be safe, something is shadowing Ivy. She will need all her natural-born magic and more as she battles to find the rest of the Kindred Stone and return to the Halls of Ivy.
Before it’s too late…
Just like the first book, The Girl With The Whispering Shadow had me hooked and wanting to dive headlong into the world of Croswald which was insightfully developed by the introduction of new places.
Honestly, I want to live in Belzebuthe with it’s magical shops, scriventist population and incredibly wholesome wishing stars. I would love to be able to go star fishing with Fyn on the roof of his awesome house (not just because Fyn is awesome and that he is such a wonderful friend to have).
Once again, the characters are awesome and I just love the friendship Ivy has with Rebecca as well as the sweet developing relationship that she had with Fyn (they need to get together ASAP because they would be the most lovely couple ever).
The plot too is well done and well paced, helped along as I said by the introduction of new characters and new places to the story that helps move it along. I won’t give any spoilers but the Oculyst is somewhere that I want to visit. In addition to this D.E.Night’s writing is simply wonderful and whimsical and gives the plot and extra boost.
She creates a wonderful villain as well in the Dark Queen, because she is very evil and quite scary. This means that she is a formidable nemesis for Ivy to face throughout the book and really challenges her magic and morals. I hope that Ivy triumphs at the end.
I just cannot wait to pick up the next book and see how Ivy’s story progresses.
